Drood Review

We have a druid in our raid group who has come up as my next investigative target for evaluating our raid team.
Our current target is Thok and using WCL I see that average HPS is 150kish, our drood is pulling between 50 and 70k... time to investigate.

So our strat for Thok involves a huddle, huddle and run, collapse to huddle, huddle and run, collapse to huddle and dispel, run, run, run huddle get fire and begin final kite with massive AOE damage and people spread all over.

Lets head over to icy and look at talents

http://www.icy-veins.com/wow/restoration-druid-pve-healing-spec-builds-talents-glyphs

so first tier displacer beast looks strong for Thok

tier 2 ward is situationally good for the fixate target but gift looks better overall

tier 3 is a wash

Tier 4 Tree of life on a 3 minute CD lasting for 30s and granting some amazing healing!!! OMG!! This is the best of the bunch for sure.

T5 roar? almost a wash but a crafty drood could find a use for roar

T6 man, some good ones there. Heart looks awesome on its own but is especially good if doing a little side DPS. Vigil on the other hand is a strong 30s heal CD on a 90s timer giving it good up time on thok and not requiring DPS.

In the glyph department stampeding roar looks strong for fixates but requires a bit of skill and is really only good for the last fixate.

Skipping that Efflo looks strong, healing touch is not too shabby, the third one is in the air but I'd try the stampede thing personally.

So let's look at our droods choices:

Displacer Beast, looks good
Gift, strong choice
Typhoon, meh tough tier
Force of Nature - just seems weak compared to
Tree of Life
Tree of Life has a 3 minute cooldown so you should be able to use it at least twice on most fights. It is best used in times of heavy raid damage. General tactics while in ToL:
  • Use Lifebloom on multiple people. Single applications can be used on many raid members to give them a small HoT then a direct heal from the bloom at the end. If specific people are taking heavy damage, you can have multiple 3-stacks up. All the extra Lifeblooms ticking will give you many Clearcasting procs.
  • Use Clearcasting procs for instant Regrowths.
  • Use Wild Growth on cooldown whenever multiple people have a health deficit.
  • If there are many people getting low on health, use Tranquility.
I just see ToL as being so damned strong and on a 3m CD. So good for Thok.

Ursok's - again this is a tier that is kind of a wash

Finally, Heart of the Wild. HoW looks good on paper but again it has this DPS side bonus that isn't being utilized so why not take Vigil instead?

So now let's look at spell usage with heal calc

http://www.healadinne.com/HealCalc/healcalc.html

The Screech portion of Thok allows instant cast AOE spells to shine so let's see what our drood has available and sort it by throughput:

Swiftmend is near the bottom along with mushrooms and wild growth is third.

What do we get with cast time spells

Ok there are all of the spells by HPS

I wont post the chart ordered by HPM but you can scan over and see that some of the top spells from the logs are middling on the throughput and fairly inefficient over all.
Swiftmend has an amazing 105 heal per mana spent. the srooms are out of this world. Whatever increases their use is a good thing.
Lifebloom, Wildgrowth, and Rejuv are the next highest in effeciency and also rank well in throughput so we really should see these up in the charts.

Finally what kind of stats are we looking at?

So first up we see 20k spirit which seems absurd.
Lots of mastery, a dash of crit and little haste.

As haste improves HoTs we should get that up. Crit is probably ok. Mastery could take a small hit, it is very useful but that is a lot of it.
Let's redo AMRs priorities with 14.5k spirit, push Int, crit is fine, and pick a higher haste BP.

Well time and real life have cut us short but next time we need to sit down and examine spells cast and uptime on buffs to see if we can increase the healing output through the harder portions of the fight especially the very hectic last P1 IN FIRE!!!!!
